This 3-part series will give an introduction to one of St. Augustine’s greatest works; De Trinitate; a wonderful, challenging, and influential work by this great Doctor and Father of the Early Church. Our exploration of De Trinitate will naturally look into the history behind this great work and its’ author, but will primarily seek to help each of us contemplate the mystery of Blessed Trinity in whose image each of us is made. Attempting to read this masterpiece or to grasp the content of the Trinity is, in Augustine’s words; “…picking my way through dark and difficult places.” Yet, to better grasp what it means to be made in God’s Image, calls upon us to venture into this greatest mystery as we seek to “see the face of God”. The schedule for this series is as follows: Week One; Thursday November 6, 2025 —7:00-8:30 pm in Sts. Peter & Paul room Introduction to St. Augustine and De Trinitate; a look at the the life and times of St. Augustine, his service to the Church, a sampling of the earliest parts of of this masterpiece, providing scriptural proofs Week Two; Thursday November 13, 2025 —7:00-8:30 pm in Sts. Peter & Paul room The Scriptural basis for the Mystery of the Blessed Trinity; a deeper dive into the biblical roots of the mystery of the Blessed Trinity and addressing some of the philosophical and heretical challenges that arise in this perilous, yet advantageous spiritual and intellectual journey. Week Three; Thursday November 20, 2025 —7:00-8:30 pm in Sts. Peter & Paul room The Psychological Analogy, the Mystery, and a Spiritual Exercise, through which Augustine takes us on a journey allowing us to get a glimpse of the Trinity in the human soul. This series is meant to be an introduction to the Trinity. Reading of the text is not required but certainly encouraged, The Edmund Hill O.P. translation will be used in the presentations. Other translation are perfectly acceptable. A number of free translations are available online.
